Every form of communication has a structure. Before an author encodes a message, he formulates in his mind what he wants to say and how he wants to say it, determining the emphasis and importance he wants to place on certain aspect of the communication. In day-to-day conversation, this occurs instantaneously and simultaneously with the words coming out of his mouth. In writing, it usually requires more time and thought.
The same is true with the Biblical writers. By discerning their structure, one can better identify the message he is communicating.
